Our Values

We long to see God working in us to deepen our relationship and experience of him and through us to help our community to understand the good news of Jesus Christ.

One picture God has given us of the characteristics for our church uses the acrostic ‘spider’s cobweb'.

S – Sticky

As a church we long to be somewhere that each person wants to stay, enjoying God’s presence and the fellowship of his people.

P – Purposeful

As a church we have a calling to be God’s light to the world and to make disciples of all nations and so we need to know our purpose and reflect that in all that we do.

I – Individual

Each person making up the church matters and has their own character, personality and gifting. As a church we want to recognise that individuality and allow each person to express that within the church and beyond it.

D – Delicate

Just as a web is delicate and easily broken so the church is made up of people with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. We all need a measure of healing from our own brokenness so that we can be made whole within the purposes of God.

E – Elastic

As the church grows and develops we will need to change how we function as a community. The good news of Jesus does not change but we need to present it effectively to each new generation and show that the unchanging message continues to apply today. This will require us to be a bit elastic within the church to allow for changes when they need to be made.

R – Real

Within the church family we can be open, honest and real with each other about our joys and our struggles so that we can give each person the support they need and find ways to express the gifts that God has given us.

S – Serving

Church always functions as a serving community, following the model that Jesus gave us. We serve those in need within the body of Christ and also serve where there are needs beyond the church.

C – Community

When Jesus taught about the kingdom of God being among us he spoke of a community bound together by love. God’s love for us, our love for him and for each other. We see the church as the local expression of that love today.

O – Outreach

When the way to a relationship with God has been made open we have a responsibility to take such good news to our community and beyond that to the rest of the world. We therefore support mission in the UK and overseas as well as seeking to reach out to our own community in a variety of ways.

B – Belonging

One of the greatest needs in society today is for somewhere to belong and be valued. As church we recognise the image of God in each person and so everyone is valued, welcomed and loved.

W – Worship

One of the things that defines the church of Jesus Christ is that we worship God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We do this through song and prayer in our services but also seek to worship him through every part of our lives.

E – Equipping

We are a community of disciples learning together what it means to follow Jesus Christ and so we look to train and equip each person to use their gifts and skills effectively.

B – Bible

As a church we hold to the Bible as God’s revelation of himself to us. An essential part of our community life together is the time we spend looking in the Scriptures. We also try to spend time reading the Bible and in prayer within our own personal lives. This is our book and the Holy Spirit uses it to help make us more like Jesus.
